1 teenager killed, several others injured in fiery accident in Wolcott: PD

WOLCOTT, CT — A fire accident killed one teenager, seriously injured one and left three others with serious injuries, police said.

On Saturday at 10:02 p.m., police received a report that a vehicle had left the road in the area of ​​734 Spindle Hill Road and struck a tree, and that the car was also on fire.

The police found the vehicle lying against a tree on a small embankment. The front of the vehicle was on fire.

Two people were outside the vehicle and told officers that there were three other people in the burning vehicle, police said.

Wolcott volunteer firefighter JR Donofrio arrived and began battling the flames with a fire extinguisher while an officer reached through the shattered rear window and pulled out the remaining occupant in the back seat, police said.

The fire brigade extinguished the flames.

The two remaining front seat occupants were trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed from the vehicle, police said.

The 17-year-old passenger in the front seat was in critical condition and was flown to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead. The three passengers in the back seat, ages 16, 18 and 18, suffered very serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, police said.

The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team, which consists of officers from surrounding cities, was called to the scene and will investigate the cause of the accident.
