(The Center Square) – Judge Aileen Cannon suspended a key deadline in former President Donald Trump’s case over confidential documents amid defense allegations that prosecutors failed to preserve key evidence in the case.

Trump’s defense team asked the judge Last month to suspend the May 9 deadline for disclosure of expert information and notice under the Classified Information Procedures Act until three weeks after the conclusion of the New York hush money trial. This week, Cannon temporarily suspended the deadlines. The latest delay could make it more difficult to stand trial this year.

Trump’s lawyers also claimed that prosecutors “failed to protect the integrity of the contents of at least some of the boxes recovered from Mar-a-Lago.” The case against Trump depends on the documents in those boxes.
