Local bridge repaired after fire on Big Piney River

A busy bridge at Baptist Camp Access on the Big Piney River that was damaged by a fire in 2022 is almost repaired.
County commissioners met Friday, May 31, at the bridge to conduct a guided inspection.
Repairs to the West Plains bridge and grading began in early March. The approximate cost is $1.3 million.
In 2022, the Houston Rural Fire Department discovered a large amount of piled and burning wooden debris under the 95-foot-long bridge featuring 63,000-pound girders manufactured in Marshall around 2012. There are six girders in I in concrete.
A neighbor called authorities after becoming alarmed by the amount of smoke in the neighborhood.
