A Cape Coral man was arrested after he reportedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and attacked her early Saturday morning. Bret Dahl, 28, smashed the woman’s Beta aquarium and flushed her pet fish down the toilet while causing destruction at the residence, Cape Coral police said. Police responded to the scene in the area of ​​2430 SW 5th Terrace. The victim told officers that she was sleeping around 2:30 a.m. when Dahl, her former boyfriend of over six months, broke into her home through a back window. She said he threw a picture frame at her and demanded that she tell him where his gun was. According to the arrest report, the woman said she was confused and tried to get Dahl to leave. He refused and pushed her into the closet door. Dahl then began damaging everything in sight on the kitchen counter and allegedly destroying the woman’s Beta aquarium. The woman told police she heard Dahl flush the toilet and never saw her pet fish, “Bean,” again. On the way out of the house, Dahl’s tantrum continued. He stole the woman’s iPhone and smashed the front left headlight and a window of her vehicle. Dahl left the scene in a friend’s vehicle. The victim ran to her brother’s house to call 911. Later Saturday, Cape Coral police saw Dahl get into a friend’s vehicle and manage to flag them down on Skyline Boulevard, CCPD said.
