27 people shot in Akron, 1 man killed, several victims hospitalized

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – Akron police are investigating a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the area of ​​Kelly and 8th Avenue.

Officers arrived in the area shortly after midnight after several people called 911 to report gunshots that struck multiple victims.

As officers responded to the scene, hospital officials reported that several people had been admitted to the emergency room with gunshot wounds.

According to police, a total of 27 people were shot and a 27-year-old man was killed.

The condition of the other victims was not disclosed.

A firearm and several dozen cartridge cases were seized at the crime scene, police said.
