Ava Phillippe in a post she shared to celebrate Pride Month 2024

Ava Phillippe is kicking off Pride Month her way!

On Saturday, June 1, the daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe celebrated the first day of Pride Month with an Instagram post alluding to her past comments about sexuality and gender — and another dedicated to her haters.

Alongside an old photo of herself waving a gay pride flag (from her pink hair days!), the 24-year-old influencer and artist shared a message with her millions of followers: “Once upon a time there was a girl on the internet who said ‘Gender doesn’t matter’ when it came to her own sexuality.”

“Many have taken her words out of context, but she knew what she meant,” she continued. “Anyway, this is her contribution to the first day of Pride Month 2024. 🌈✨🪩🫶🏻.”

Her post – which was loved by everyone from Dylan Mulvaney to Alyssa Milano – referenced a comment she made over two years ago during an “Ask Me Anything” session on her Instagram Stories.

In January 2022, Ava wrote a casual response to a fan who asked, “Do you like boys or girls?” In it, she revealed that she is “attracted to… people!” and added in parentheses, “Gender doesn’t matter.”

The comment Ava made regarding her own sexuality made headlines and was, in her own words, “taken out of context.”

But regardless of how her comments about sexuality were – and will be – received, Ava is living her best, most carefree life this Pride Month.

In a recent post shared on Instagram Stories, Ava continued her message alongside a smiling beach selfie, writing, “Happy #PrideMonth to: the haters who engage with my content and make me a little money,” jokingly adding, “Now that’s what I call an ally!”

Also referring to her “haters,” she wished the “Block Button” a happy Pride Month before concluding with a serious remark.

“& of course my LGBTQ+ community 🫶🏻🌈,” she added. “Now it’s back to enjoying this beautiful beach…”

Last month, Ava called out some of her haters for a different reason: body shaming. On May 3, she shared a photo of herself and her dog Benji to her Instagram stories and wrote, “Body shaming is toxic behavior (asked Benji and he agrees).”

“So maybe just… don’t do that?” she added.

This post came shortly after a TikTok Ava shared on the same topic, in which she explained that the artist had reached a “huge milestone” as a woman on the internet.

“I saw two different strangers commenting on my body,” Ava wrote. “The first said I should try Oz*mpic because I’m too fat… The second accused me of starving myself because I’m too thin…”

“My weight hasn’t changed in the time between her comments,” she continued, adding, “It would be none of her business if it had changed!” and “it’s such a bitch.”

In the caption, Ava added that body shaming is “toxic behavior,” and her actress mother Witherspoon chimed in in the comments, writing, “Yes to all of this 💋.”
