Five men who recorded a rap video were arrested after leading police on a chase. Drugs and money were confiscated

All five men face a total of almost 30 charges.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas (AP) — Universal City police said five men ended up leading them on a chase as they recorded a rap video in an abandoned apartment.

Patrol Lt. Stephen Rios said some of the men had gang ties. He said they had cash, drugs and guns that they could use to record music. KENS 5 captured video on a body camera of the short chase that occurred April 28 just behind an apartment off FM 78 near Randolph Air Force Base.

Rios said someone called police about suspicious activity. He said once officers arrived they noticed a few things.

“There were some narcotics and weapons clearly visible,” he said. “They made a rap video.”

In the body camera video, an officer can be seen running through a grassy area next to the highway with his weapon. At some point you see the police officer spotting a man about to jump over a fence. He yells at the suspect to get on the ground. The 19-year-old tells the officer in the video that they had just filmed a music video.

Universal City police said of the several guns they found, one came back stolen. Rios said they believe others could also be stolen.

“They’re breaking into vehicles,” Rios said. “They find guns in the car, and then there are some armed teenage thugs out there.”

Rios said drugs such as cocaine, marijuana and cash were also found.

“The money, the guns, the drugs were all part of the props for the rap video,” he said.

Rios says up to 12 officers assisted, including from Live Oak Police. He said a total of five men were arrested.

“Nobody was hurt,” Rios said. “I think overall they did a fantastic job.”

Rios said they are seeing an increase in these types of crimes among young adults.

“These guys think it’s cool,” he said. “A lot of these guys we meet are armed and involved in drug deals.” It’s kind of become popular and people think it’s cool. “It’s not cool and eventually it will catch up with you.”
