Man arrested in Sweden for threatening politicians on social media

Police in Piraeus have arrested a foreigner wanted by Swedish authorities for threatening politicians on social media.

The 61-year-old man was arrested at his home in Keratsini and subsequently brought before the public prosecutor on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons.

A police statement said they had found four rifles, two handguns, ammunition, three pairs of binoculars, a silencer and nine portable wireless transmitters and receivers. Swedish authorities had revoked the suspect’s firearms license on suspicion of involvement in criminal offenses.

The suspect had “lived in Greece for at least a year without taking the required steps to report his possession (of the weapons) to the Greek authorities,” the statement continued.

“Swedish authorities subsequently revoked his firearms license because he was suspected of committing criminal offenses for sharing videos with threatening content directed against the country’s political figures on a popular social networking platform,” police said.
