3 shots, 2 dead in shooting in Grand Rapids’ entertainment district

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Two men died and a third suffered gunshot wounds in an overnight shooting, according to Grand Rapids police.

It happened just before 1 a.m. near the intersection of Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and Cherry Street, SW. This is a popular entertainment district with several bars nearby and music venue The Intersection across the street. The location is also one block west of the Studio Park entertainment complex. Police have not said if the victims were connected to a specific venue.

According to police, one man was shot and died at the scene. A second man was taken to the hospital where he later died. A third shooting victim sought private transportation to get to the hospital.

There is no information yet on the search for a suspect or what might have led to the shooting. Police say only that the investigation is ongoing.
