Person dies when he runs out of gas after being hit by a semi-truck on a South Carolina highway

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WJBF) — A person who ran out of gas on I-20 died after getting out of his truck early Saturday morning.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 5:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, on I-20 Eastbound near mile marker 79 in Richland County.


According to police reports, the driver of a 2014 GMC Sierra ran out of gas and stalled in the road. After exiting the vehicle, the driver was struck by a semi-truck, striking both the victim and the pickup truck.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

The victim’s name was not released.
