Houston Astros GM Reveals MLB Trade Deadline Plans

The Houston Astros entered action Tuesday with a 12-22 record and seven games out of first place in the American League West. They lost to New York in the Bronx by a score of 10-3.

It was a disastrous season for a team many believed to be World Series contenders. This is largely due to injuries that have impacted Houston’s starting rotation. JP France and Cristian Javier are currently absent. Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander also missed time on the injured list.

Despite all of this, Houston is in more of a desperation mode. Simply put, he can’t afford to fall further in the American League standings before embarking on some sort of run.

General manager Dana Brown was recently asked about what he sees with his team and whether the Astros will be sellers ahead of the July MLB trade deadline. He didn’t hesitate to answer.

“I don’t see any chance for us to become sellers. I think the team is so good. If guys start turning a corner, good things will happen.

The Astros have about three months to move up in the standings. The good news here is that no one is moving away in the AL West. After their victory over the Oakland A’s on Tuesday, the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers sit in first place with a 21-16 record.

Houston Astros see no reason to panic despite slow start

“I think the key here is to win this series, win this series, win this series, get back to .500,” Brown said. “Once you get back to .500 and start rolling, you get a five-game winning streak here, seven here, ten there, before you know it you’re eight to ten games over. 500.”

The key is to be healthy and see the programming start to produce.

Houston entered Tuesday’s game against the New York Yankees with a .259 batting average. Alex Bregman (.202 average) struggled. Jose Abreu was sent to the minors after hitting .099 in 71 at-bats.

The Astros are built to win right now. It makes no sense to blow up the list. However, the biggest question here is the status of manager Joe Espada. He is firmly in the hot seat.
