Man sentenced to 14 years in prison for raping his underage daughter in Kerala

According to prosecutors, the child claimed that his father had been sexually abusing him since 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Prosecutors said the court saw no room for mercy for the man who had abused his own child and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.

Thiruvananthapuram: A Court in Kerala sentenced a 48-year-old man to a total of 14 years in prison for serious Sexual harassment his 14-year-old daughter at their house near Peroorkada in Kerala. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment each for the offences of repeated aggravated sexual assault under Section 9(l) and aggravated sexual assault by a consanguineous relative under Section 9(n) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, for a total of 14 years, as per the order passed by R. Rekha of the Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court on May 31.

Special Public Prosecutor RS Vijay Mohan confirmed that the man will have to serve seven years of imprisonment as the sentences have to be served concurrently. The Special Public Prosecutor added that the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict and directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay adequate compensation to the survivor.

According to the prosecution, the survivor alleged that her father had been sexually abusing her regularly since 2020, during the Covid-19 outbreak. In February last year, one night, the accused touched her private parts while she was sleeping and no one was at home as her brother and elder sister were in Tamil Nadu.
