Man charged with attack on 90-year-old woman

Register police arrested a man Tuesday for allegedly physically assaulting his 90-year-old aunt for money. Steve Marland Lowery, 38, of Church Street, was charged with simple assault of a person over 65, Register Police Chief Tom Kile said. Lowery approached the elderly victim Saturday and demanded money. When she didn’t give him money, Lowery began “taking off her clothes” to search for cash, causing visible injuries, including a cut on the victim’s hand, he said.
