Woman jumps out of moving car in E. Portland, suspected kidnapper arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A woman is safe and recovering from her injuries after she bravely escaped a kidnapper by jumping out of a moving car on Friday, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

On Friday around 1:40 p.m., police received a 911 call about a woman screaming and running near Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street. When they arrived, they found the woman hiding in a driveway.

The 47-year-old woman told officers that the man, a stranger, stopped his car near the corner of Southeast 146th Avenue and Southeast Division Street and offered to give her a ride home. She accepted the offer and when they reached the corner of Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, she opened her door to get out. The man then sped off, preventing her from driving away.

The woman then began to fight with the man as the car drove by, and he punched her in the face. She eventually managed to jump out of the moving car at the corner of Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street and escape. She was injured from the fall but was able to walk.

According to police, the man was able to escape. But not for long. At 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, an officer spotted a car matching the woman’s description and stopped it near Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Beech Street.

Ra Fet, 25, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse, coercion, menacing, fourth-degree assault, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.
