Death investigation underway in Statesville

STATESVILLE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Statesville police say a death investigation is ongoing after a woman was found dead in her home.

At approximately 4 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding a deceased person at a residence in the 500 block of Hickory Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Shelbie Smith, 33, of Statesville, dead.

The Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit arrived on the scene and began investigating Smith’s death. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is also investigating this incident.
