Convoy of BJP MP Ram Kripal Yadav attacked, one party worker injured, police say

The convoy of BJP candidate for the Patliputra Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar, Ram Kripal Yadav, was attacked by unidentified assailants in Patna on Saturday after the conclusion of polling, injuring a party worker, police said.

He contested against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Misa Bharti, daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

“We have received information that (BJP MP) Ram Kripal Yadav’s convoy was attacked on the Patna-Jehanabad road and a party worker was injured in the incident. A written complaint has been submitted and we are investigating the case…” Patna East Police Commissioner Bharat Soni said on Saturday.

Yadav won the last two elections by a narrow margin. This time, Misa Bharti was supported by a coalition that included RJD, Congress, RJD, Congress, CPI, CPM, CPI-ML, etc.

In 2014, after the split between BJP and JD(U), Ram Kripal Yadav joined the BJP. Riding the Modi wave, he emerged victorious in the elections over Misa Bharti.

In 2019, Misa Bharti again contested against Ram Kripal Yadav in Pataliputra. Despite being nominated by the RJD, she faced defeat with Ram Kripal Yadav winning by a margin of over 39,000 votes.

The seventh and final phase of elections in the biggest festival of democracy ended on Saturday when voting began at 7 a.m. in the last 57 constituencies in seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The seventh phase marks a grand conclusion to the world’s largest election marathon, which began on the 19th of last month and has already covered six phases and 486 seats in the Lok Sabha.
