12-year-old boy among four other teenagers arrested on suspicion of rape in Newark incident

Nottinghamshire Police have arrested four more boys – all aged under 14 – after a young girl was raped at a sports field. Officers received a report that a girl was attacked at York Drive Playing Fields in Newark between 5.30pm and 7pm on Saturday 25 May.

Detectives have been investigating and have now arrested four more boys in connection with the incident. A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of rape. They have all been released on bail and under strict conditions.



Earlier this week, four teenagers were also arrested on suspicion of rape. All four are free on bail, according to Nottinghamshire Police. Detective Inspector Amy Revill said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress rapidly.”

“We continue to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened. I would again appeal to the local community and anyone with information to contact us. Several people have come forward to help us with our investigation – thank you for your help.”

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, District Manager for Newark, added: “I understand the concern this incident has caused in our Newark community. But I want to make it clear that the team of investigators investigating this incident are working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.”

“We have been carrying out additional patrols in the area and will continue to do so, so if you have any concerns please speak to one of my officers. We would also ask people to avoid speculation while we go through this process.
