12-year-old boy among eight arrested after girl ‘raped on playing fields’ | UK news

A 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of rape after allegedly attacking a young girl at some playgrounds in Newark.

He was one of four other youths arrested in connection with the incident, which is said to have occurred between 5.30pm and 7pm on 25 May at the Yorke Drive sports grounds in Nottinghamshire.

A 13-year-old boy and two other 14-year-olds were also arrested. All have since been released on bail and under strict conditions.

Previously, four other teenage boys, two aged 15 and two aged 16, were arrested on suspicion of rape and were also released on bail earlier this week.

Detective Inspector Amy Revill of Nottinghamshire Police said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress rapidly.”

“We continue to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing everything we can to clarify the exact incident.”

“I would again appeal to local people and anyone with information to please contact us. A number of people have come forward to assist us with our investigations – thank you for your help.”

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, District Manager for Newark, added: “I understand the concerns this incident has caused in our Newark community.”

“But I want to make it clear that the team of investigators investigating this incident is working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.”

“We have been carrying out additional patrols in this area and will continue to do so, so if you have any concerns please speak to one of my officers.

“We would also like to ask people to avoid speculation as we go through this process.”

“We will keep you updated on the progress of our investigation.”
