A Colorado man was arrested at a Del Taco location after allegedly stealing a Mustang from a woman at a gas station in San Bernardino County.

A press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department states that officers were dispatched to the Shell gas station at 8986 Deep Creek Road in Apple Valley shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday.

“The suspect allegedly ran behind a customer who was standing next to her vehicle and attempted to rip the cell phone out of her hand,” SBSD said. “The victim was able to hold onto her phone, but the suspect ripped the car keys to her 2014 Mustang GT out of her hand and pushed her to the ground.”

After taking the keys, the suspect, identified as Jacob Naro of Pueblo, Colorado, ran toward the victim’s vehicle and attempted to start the engine, but was reportedly briefly stopped by a gas station attendant.

“A gas station employee reached into the vehicle and attempted to get Naro out … (he) then allegedly pushed the gas station employee out of the vehicle onto the ground and drove away,” officials said.

After officers found the stolen Mustang, they initiated a pursuit during which Naro drove on the wrong side of the road, ignored traffic lights and showed “total disregard for public safety.”

Naro, 28, eventually stopped the vehicle in front of a permanently closed Del Taco store near CA-138 and Freeway 15 in Phelan Township. He was quickly taken into custody without further incident, authorities said.

Exactly how long the pursuit lasted was not disclosed.

The Colorado native was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on $100,000 bail for robbery, auto theft, felony evasion and fleeing by driving on the wrong side of the road.
