Sagadahoc County improves emergency alert system to better serve residents

Sagadahoc County is improving its emergency notification system in hopes of making it easier for residents to sign up to receive alerts about severe weather, municipal emergencies and local activities. Rave is an emergency mass notification system used by county and local officials to send alerts to residents. The county says improvements to the system will allow officials to better communicate emergency information directly to citizens via voice call, text message, email and social media. The current system can translate messages into multiple languages and allows residents to choose what type of alerts they want to receive. “Rave is a great tool that will help us provide real-time official alerts to our residents,” said Philip Davis, Sagadahoc County’s emergency management director. “These improvements will not only make it easier for us to notify our residents when emergencies occur or when we need to share important safety information, but will also give residents the ability to choose the best way they want to receive alerts.” County officials say signing up for the Rave emergency mass notification system is easy and encourage all residents to do so. Signing up can be done through the county’s web portal or by downloading the Smart911 app. Residents currently signed up to receive emergency alerts through CodeRed will need to re-sign up, as the information will not be transferred to the new system. The target date for Sagadahoc County to transition to the updated mass notification system is July 1, 2024.
