Deputy accused of sexually abusing man in prison, mother ‘in shock’

A correctional officer in the US state of Georgia is alleged to have sexually abused a man in the county jail – now the inmate’s mother is speaking out on his behalf.

“When you talk about a law enforcement officer, it makes me so angry. This is someone who is supposed to serve you and protect you,” the mother, Judy Freeman, said in an interview with WSB-TV published Thursday.

Quentin Morgan, a 22-year-old former Spalding County deputy, was arrested on May 25 and charged with sexual assault, sodomy and abuse of office by a public official, according to inmate records reviewed by HuffPost.

Court documents cited by WSBTV stated that Morgan showed Freeman a sex video before returning to his cell and forcing him to perform oral sex.

According to local news reports, Freeman’s son then told Spalding County jail staff that Morgan had attacked him.

The victim’s mother told Fox affiliate WAGA that she was still “in shock” about what her son had experienced.

“When my son calls me, I can’t talk to him for five minutes about the situation, you know, less than five minutes, and he starts crying. I put the phone down and start crying,” the mother told the outlet.

It is unclear when the sexual assault occurred.

Morgan was hired by the Spading Sheriff’s Office in April of this year after being fired by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office in March for escorting an inmate to a secure area, contrary to department policy, WAGA reports. Coweta County said Morgan has not faced any allegations of sexual misconduct, the station reported.

According to WAGA and WSB, Morgan eventually confessed to the sexual assault allegations after investigators collected video evidence and interviews. He was fired from the sheriff’s office and arrested.

In a statement quoted by local news outlets, Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix said his office had asked the court to deny Morgan bail.

“He broke the law; he will be held accountable and face the consequences,” Dix said in the statement.
