Arrest in connection with suspicious package incident at Our Lady of Lourdes

The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) has announced an arrest in connection with the suspicious package found at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Albert Romero, 38, of Lafayette has been charged with terrorizing and is currently in custody at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center (LPCC).

The incident began on May 31, 2024 at approximately 7:15 p.m., when a suspicious package was reported in the parking lot of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, formerly known as Women’s and Children’s Hospital, located at 4600 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Due to the potential threat to public safety, the hospital and its parking lot were cordoned off and a crime scene was established.

Multiple emergency responders, including the Lafayette Fire Department, Louisiana State Police and Hazmat teams, were on scene to provide security and investigate the situation. Following standard protocols, the scene was thoroughly investigated and secured.

On the morning of June 1, 2024, LPD investigators managed to arrest Albert Romero. Authorities have not disclosed the motive for the incident.
