Police launched a murder investigation after a 37-year-old woman was found with her throat slit in the Williamsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx in the early hours of Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Police launched a murder investigation after a 37-year-old woman was found with her throat slit in the Williamsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call about a woman being assaulted at 1418 Oakley Street at approximately 6:08 a.m. on Saturday, June 1.

“Upon arrival, officers found a 37-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive with a laceration to her neck,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS rushed to the scene and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was pronounced deceased.”

Police said there were no immediate arrests and the investigation is ongoing. The deceased was identified as Ashley Smith, 37, of East Lincoln Avenue in Mt. Vernon.
