Police search for man who killed a police officer

Police conducted a social services check on the agent who had not reported back to work. Authorities identified the suspect.

CHEVY CHASE, Maryland — The Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is searching for Emmanuel Edward Sewell, a Chevy Chase man wanted in connection with the Death of a parole officer in the state of Maryland. According to police, officers arrived at the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2024, to check on the welfare of a Maryland parolee who had failed to report back to work “following a background check on Swell resident, a registered sex offender.”

Upon arrival at the scene, police found an adult male who was later pronounced dead. Police confirm that Sewell was not in the home and has not yet been located.

Authorities are sending a warning to the public after investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Sewell, accusing him of: Second degree murderPolice say the suspect “may be armed and is considered dangerous. Do not approach the suspect if you find him.”

Sewell, 54, may be driving a gray 2017 Hyundai Elantra with Maryland License Plates 93661HT.

Police have not yet released the victim’s identity. They will do so once the family agrees. The cause of death is currently under investigation and will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
