After his arrest in Rye in 2023, News 9 Investigates found that Vidal was convicted of 11 murders in Brazil. The Brazilian government said Vidal was a military police officer when he took part in a revenge killing known as the Curio massacre in 2015.

He then came to the United States, where he lived in Merrimack with his wife and daughter.

Vidal’s lawyer Felipe Cruz wrote to News 9: “Under Brazilian law, there is no final conviction. In other words, he is presumed innocent before the law until all legal remedies have been exhausted. We consider any imprisonment unjust.”

A court hearing is scheduled for next week.
