Syracuse-Buffalo game canceled after injury, Jiman Choi granted release

The Syracuse Mets and Buffalo Bisons game was cut short due to a very scary scene. Bison catcher Payton Henri needed medical attention after being hit by a swing in the bottom of the seventh inning. Henry was transported to a local hospital in Syracuse, where he was alert and responsive. No further information was released Friday evening.

The Syracuse Mets and Buffalo Bisons closed in the seventh inning after a head injury to Bisons catcher Payton Henry. A Pablo Reyes the backswing hit Henry on the back of his facemask and was quickly attended to by both teams’ coaches. After being tied to a panel, Henry was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The Bisons announced Friday evening that Henry was “alert and adequately responsive.”

Syracuse quickly fell behind in the first third after Spencer Horwitz And Orelvis Martinez‘s RBI hits. The Mets would score four unanswered runs, led by Jiman Choi’s solo home run in the fifth inning.

Hamel took a step in the right direction when he came out Friday night. After allowing two runs early in the game, Hamel settled in and handled the trouble the rest of his time on the mound. Although his walks are still high and his strikeouts low, the former Dallas Baptist will continue to limit runs while taking on baserunners.

Drew Smith pitched a perfect inning in his fourth rehab start (fifth overall) with Syracuse.

It was announcement The Mets granted Jiman Choi his release from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. He is no longer with the Mets organization and is an unconditional free agent.

Double A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (25-22) 2, Harrisburg Senators (29-20) 7

The Rumble Ponies were dominated in their Friday night match against Harrisburg. The offense managed just three hits, including two from Nolan McLean. McLean drove in the Ponies’ only runs of the night, the second being his first home run in Double-A.

Binghamton’s pitchers didn’t have much run support, which made the score much worse than the actual gameplay. Before Gervase entered the ninth, the collection of Stuart, Santos and McLoughlin allowed three runs and seven hits, giving Binghamton a chance in the game.

Trey McLoughlin has only allowed two earned runs all season, the last one dating back to April 19.

High-A

Jersey Shore BlueClaws (27-22) 7, Brooklyn Cyclones (26-23) 2

Brooklyn’s offense faltered against Jersey Shore on Friday night — the Cyclones’ only offense came from Stanley Consuegra’s two-run homer, his third in the last seven games. The rest of the Cyclones combined for four hits and three walks.

Orellana was limited to just 41 locations Friday night, as Jonah Tongwhen he last left, but he didn’t have his usual stuff. He allowed three runs to the BlueClaws (one unearned) and struck out just one Jersey Shore batter. It was the first time he allowed two or more earned runs since starting April 18 against the same Jersey Shore team.

The Mets rookie offense exploded against the FCL-Cardinals. Huge days in the blistering heat from AJ Ewing and Simon Juan led the team to 19 hits, ten walks and 14 runs.

Just one month into his professional career, AJ Ewing has become a notable prospect to watch. With an OPS over 1.000, Ewing left pitchers around the league looking foolish, as evidenced by his impressive five-game extra-base hit streak.

Irving Cota struck out nine batters while allowing two hits and two runs in four innings in his second appearance in the United States.
