US man tracked his ex-girlfriend's whereabouts during a date and then killed her when she came home

Cari Allen, 43, disappeared in November 2022.

A man in the US who tracked his ex-girlfriend’s whereabouts on a social media app and then killed her when she returned home was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday. According to PeopleAldrick Scott was found guilty of first-degree murder in March, more than a year after the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Cari Allen. Police initially charged Scott with kidnapping, but it later emerged that he tracked her location via Snapchat and drove to her home, where he waited for her to arrive before shooting her.

Cari Allen, 43, disappeared in November 2022. She was on a date at a restaurant when her former boyfriend tracked her location. According to abc news Affiliate KETVDuring the trial, prosecutors alleged that Scott awaited the 43-year-old at her home after following her. He reportedly drove from Topeka, Kansas, to Nebraska, stalked Ms Allen via Snapchat maps, then waited at her home for more than an hour and murdered her before fleeing the country.

Aldrick Scott was eventually arrested in Belize. Ms. Allen’s body was found in a shallow grave.

“That’s the typical problem with domestic violence, with control cases. If I don’t have control or can’t have you, then nobody has control,” Douglas County Prosecutor Don Kleine said, according to the outlet.

The judge said: “It was clear that you could not bear the separation from Cari Allen. Your obsession was the reason for the crimes of which you were convicted.”

“So her life was taken because he was angry and didn’t get what he wanted,” Mr Kleine added.

In handing down the verdict, the judge called Ms Allen’s murder “senseless and tragic” and said there was “overwhelming evidence of the crimes.”

In addition, the judge and prosecutor noted that Scott never showed any emotion or remorse during the trial and sentencing. “I never saw any sign of remorse, sadness or anything else from the defense in this case,” said Mr. Kleine.

The defense, on the other hand, claimed that Scott and Ms. Allen had recently separated and that something happened when Scott went to Ms. Allen’s home to talk to her in 2022. She claimed that he acted in self-defense and ran away in a panic.

On Thursday, Scott was sentenced to life in prison plus 45 to 60 years in prison.
