Sam Darcy suspended after massive collision with Brayden Maynard, Rhylee West pushes Jeremy Howe, Taylor Duryea punches Nick Daicos behind play, Match Review Officer, Collingwood Magpies vs. Western Bulldogs, comments, reactions, latest news

Western Bulldogs strikers Sam Darcy and Rhylee West have learned their fate as match review officers following two questionable incidents on Friday night.

Darcy was suspended for two games, West for one game.

Due to a potential conflict with his club, the 20-year-old defensive threat will miss the Bulldogs’ upcoming games against Brisbane and Fremantle, while West will also miss next Friday’s clash with the Lions.

Darcy’s act was classified as careless conduct, high impact, and strong physical contact, while West’s act was classified as careless conduct, medium impact, and strong physical contact.

In the first quarter of the Bulldogs’ victory over the Magpies at Marvel Stadium, there was heavy contact between the oncoming Darcy and Collingwood defender Brayden Maynard, with the latter colliding with the backwards-running Magpie during a defense battle.

The heavy contact – mostly to the back of Maynard’s head – resulted in a 50-metre penalty for the Collingwood defender, who took a proper shot before getting up from the field and being escorted into the rooms.

Collingwood players immediately blamed Darcy.

After undergoing and passing a concussion test, Maynard left the room and spent several minutes on the bench before returning to the field.

West’s sanction, meanwhile, came after the striker decided to push Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe.

Elsewhere, Taylor Duryea was fined after being immediately cautioned for hitting Nick Daicos behind play.

“The AFL doesn’t like players throwing their arms or elbows back. We certainly see Nick Daicos hitting high here and maybe you could say he’s making the most of it,” Jon Ralph reported during Fox Footy’s halftime coverage.

“I don’t think it has a huge impact, it’s just negligent, so I think it fits really well as a fine.”

Luke Beveridge’s Dogs were already undermanned ahead of Friday night’s fight, with strikers Aaron Naughton (knee) and Cody Weightman (elbow) missing.

With Darcy resigned to being out of action for two weeks, Rory Lobb – who played as the second ruck behind Tim English on Friday – is likely to move into the 50-area forward role.
