Two men were killed in a collision on Hustonville Road near Bonta Lane in south Danville around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A black 2004 Chevy Blazer, driven by 49-year-old David Wiegand of Mackville, Kentucky, was traveling north on U.S. 127 when it crossed the center line and entered the path of a red 2004 Mazda traveling south, driven by Houston resident Austin Wethington.

Wethington, 23, was fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Boyle County Coroner Eric Guerrant. Wiegand was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. Guerrant pronounced him dead.

Due to the severity of the crash, both lanes of US 127 had to be closed during the investigation and cleanup. According to the Boyle County Fire Department, both vehicles sustained major damage and emergency crews used extrication equipment to gain access to the patients.

The accident is currently under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 7 Trooper Clayton Cooper. KSP was assisted by the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, Danville Police Department, Danville EMS, Boyle County Fire Department and the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.

Shortly after the accident occurred, images of the vehicles were posted on social media before a proper investigation could be conducted and families notified. Although a citizen has the right under the First Amendment to film or photograph in public, the Coroner’s Office and Boyle County Sheriff’s Office ask that you refrain from posting images and videos on social media out of respect for the individuals involved and their families.
