CT man sentenced to 19 years in prison for sexually abusing a girl

A Connecticut man was sentenced to 19 years in prison Friday for sexually abusing a young girl in his home over a four-year period, officials said.

Michael R. Mansfield, 65, of Winchester, was sentenced by Judge Jason M. Lobo to 25 years in prison, suspended after 19 years, followed by 15 years of probation, according to Litchfield District Attorney David R. Shannon. He was also ordered to register with the Connecticut sex offender registry.

Mansfield was found guilty of one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of fourth-degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering a minor. A Superior Court jury reached the verdict on March 27, 2024, in less than two hours after a three-day trial, the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice said in a news release Friday.

According to court documents, Mansfield sexually abused a female victim at his Winsted home between 2012 and 2016, when the victim was between the ages of 7 and 11.

“Prosecutor Shannon would like to thank the Winchester Police Department, the Child Abuse Investigation Team at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Ministry of Children and Families for their work and dedication to this investigation,” the DCJ said in a press release Friday.
