Harley Reid, Rising Star, suspended, Sling Tackle, match report, tribunal, Darcy Wilson, West Coast Eagles vs. St. Kilda Saints, number one draft pick

According to Fox Footy’s David King, rising star favourite Harley Reid could be in “a lot of pain” as he nervously waits for a sling tackle in the match review.

Reid caused a free kick in his side’s clash with St Kilda on Saturday after grabbing Saint Darcy Wilson’s jumper and hurling it into the turf.

Wilson’s head touched the turf at Optus Stadium, which King believes the AFL now wants to prevent.

“He (Wilson) is not feeling well,” King said.

“That’s a tackle we have to take out of the game.

“That’s the noose. The head falling to the ground – that’s all we don’t want. I’m sorry.

“If this turns into a suspension – we hope first and foremost that the young guy is OK – if he has suffered a concussion, I think the Rising Star favorite will be in a lot of pain.

“The tackling, the action – that’s a problem for him.”

Betting on Rising Stars has already been suspended while Reid and the AFL world await the outcome of the match review.

Fellow commentator Will Schofield felt the tackle did not warrant a suspension because there were not “two actions” in Reid’s attempt to bring Wilson to the ground in the third round.

However, King maintained that Reid had a duty of care toward Wilson.

“What alternative do you have in this scenario?” asked Schofield.

“Anything but that,” King replied.

Wilson was able to return to competition for the final term.

His competitor for the title of “Rising Star” Sam Darcy faces a two-match ban for his punch against Magpie Brayden Maynard on Friday evening.

This moment marred the brilliant performance of Reid, who had an incredible 17 touches and seven clearances in the first half.
