Therapist in Albuquerque faces child molestation charges

A therapist has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly sexually touching one of his patients. Albuquerque police have launched an investigation into therapist Krishna Vemulapalli, 33, of Albuquerque, after a report that he sexually touched a teenage patient. A detective with the Albuquerque Sex Crimes Unit Police spoke to the patient about the sexual touching. The investigation began on Tuesday, April 2nd. The victim told police she had seen Vemulapalli as her therapist for four years. She told the Albuquerque detective that her overall well-being improved during her weekly sessions. However, she also said that Vemulapalli started becoming physically attentive to her and would sit next to her on a couch instead of looking at the patient. This led to her touching her leg and thigh and touching her buttocks, according to court documents. The victim also told police that he asked about her sexual history and whether she was sexually active. This led to a therapy session this year where Vemulapalli asked to touch her breast, which the victim refused. Court records show she told police he touched it anyway, while also placing his hands on the victim’s neck. The neck grab occurred in several actions, and the victim said she lost the ability to breathe in one instance. The victim did not tell his friends or family when the alleged sexual contact occurred. However, this changed when she took a health class at school and sexual assault and harassment were taught. This led her to realize that she was a victim of sexual assault. The victim attended her final therapy session with Vemulapalli using a voice recording application on her smartwatch. The two discussed the alleged sexual touching and he apologized for his behavior, according to court documents. The Albuquerque detective later spoke with the patient’s mother. She told police that Vemulapalli offered money or free sessions so the victim did not contact law enforcement. Vemulapalli is charged with three counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and bribery. Stay up to date on the latest news with the KOAT app. You can download it here.
