Shock in Uttarakhand: Sub-inspector attacks woman, rapes her repeatedly in Dehradun; arrested

Dehradun, June 1: A sub-inspector in Raipur city of Dehradun district in Uttarakhand has been suspended and an FIR filed against him for allegedly assaulting and raping a woman, a police official confirmed. In the complaint, the complainant said the incident took place on December 17, 2023, and alleged that the accused assaulted her and had violent intercourse with her at different places.

Hindustan Newspaper reported that the Sub-Inspector of Raipur Police Station, posted at Mayur Vihar Chowki, faces charges under Sections 323 (intentional causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 354-B (assault or criminal force intended to outrage modesty) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. Superintendent of Police (city) Pramod Kumar stated that the woman, a yoga instructor, had initially filed a complaint of theft in February last year, which was processed by the accused officer, who was then posted at Kuthal Gate Chowki. She alleged that he took her to Nainital on the pretext of visiting the High Court and raped her in a hotel in December. The woman also accused him of taking her to a rented apartment on Sahastradhara Road where he raped her multiple times. The woman also alleged that he intimidated her, misused his service weapon and physically assaulted her.

Following the woman’s complaint, the police filed charges against the officer on May 29 and immediately suspended him.

Dehradun police issued a statement confirming registration of FIR against SI Manoj Bhatt based on the woman’s allegations. The case is being investigated by Sub-Inspector Bhavna under the supervision of Premnagar Circle Officer Reena Rathore. The investigation is ongoing.
