MADISON (WKOW) — A Dane County judge sentenced a Minnesota man to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexual assault on a Madison bike path in 2005.

A jury found Aidison Yang, 43, of Eagan, Minnesota, guilty in February 2024 on three counts of first-degree sexual assault with the use of a dangerous weapon.

According to court records, Yang must serve 20 years in prison for the crime, followed by 20 years of extended probation.

“I am grateful that the defendant is finally being held accountable for the violent crimes he committed nearly two decades ago,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “I thank everyone who worked to bring justice to this case.”

According to court documents, on October 15, 2005, Yang chased a 22-year-old woman on a bike path in the Atwood neighborhood. He then forced her off the path at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her.

The woman said that during the encounter she thought she was going to die.

Yang was arrested in 2023 after a DNA sample taken from him in prison matched the DNA profile from the test the woman took in 2005 immediately after the attack.
