Destini Decoff, who was hit by a car in an alleged driving aggression incident in Massachusetts, has succumbed to her injuries, her mother told local news station WBZ-TV.

Decoff died on April 6 after being hit by a car in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, last week.

According to a press release from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett, the 26-year-old woman was in a vehicle with several others when an incident occurred between them and Ryan Sweatt.

The press release further states that Sweatt, 36, of Milford, was driving a Honda Civic on Route 85 in Hopkinton when he came into contact with people in the other vehicle.

“At some point, some of the occupants of the other vehicle, including the victim, exited the car. Sweatt then made a U-turn at a high rate of speed and struck the victim in the roadway,” the press release states.

Decoff “was thrown several meters into the air by the impact,” reports WBZ-TV. She was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Her mother, Tracy, told WBZ-TV that her daughter experienced complications during the surgery and was unlikely to ever be able to breathe on her own again.

“Today my greatest fear as a mother became a reality. My firstborn child and my best friend are no longer with me,” Tracy wrote in a post on Facebook, Boston.com reports.

“Spread your beautiful wings and fly without pain and suffering,” she reportedly added, promising that justice would be done.

“On April 6th, Destini was tragically taken from us after she was intentionally hit by a car. Her family is asking for help with the costs of her final care. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,” reads a GoFundMe campaign organized by Angela Welch.

As of Monday, April 8, the account has reached nearly $12,000 of its $15,000 goal.

When officers arrived at the scene of the accident on April 4, Sweatt told police he was on his way home when the other vehicle pulled in front of him and the driver slammed on the brakes, according to WBZ-TV.

According to court documents, Sweatt told police that Decoff and four men got out of their vehicle and began threatening him, WBZ-TV reported.

“They are trying to kill me,” he allegedly told police.

Sweatt then pointed to the scene of the accident, where the responding officer had observed five people on the street, including a seriously injured Decoff lying on the ground next to a pool of blood.

The damage to the windshield of Sweatt’s Honda was also clearly visible at the time.

“We could tell there was a little road rage involved,” Brett Martin, a witness who was at Cornell’s Pub on Route 85, told WBZ-TV. “I saw her in the air coming toward the road … her jacket must have been 20 feet away from her. However she got hit, the clothes flew off.”

“He turned around several times and could have just kept walking,” Martin said of Sweatt. “He decided to turn around. He knew what he was doing when he walked toward the girl.”
