Buffalo Bills DE Javon Solomon works to make the transition from college to the NFL

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Bills fifth-round pick Javon Solomon left his mark at Troy University, leading the nation in sacks with 16 as a junior.

Solomon improved significantly from a four-sack season the year before.

“My AG put together all my clips for 2022. So, I was learning what I was doing wrong from all these clips. I just took that and put it in 2023,” Solomon said.

The young passer turned sack machine says that to play at his highest level, he had to step back and think.

“I really dug into my word and my scriptures,” Solomon said.

He has become a nightmare for any college quarterback. Now, the fifth-round pick is working to transfer his skills to fit into an elite group of players for the Bills.

“People really don’t understand how different college is from the pros. It’s nothing like it,” Solomon said.

Perfecting the smallest techniques can sometimes become frustrating. However, Solomon can shake off his mistakes and work until he succeeds.

“I take that information in and I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ll grab it and then I go back and hit it again,’ I try to do it the right way,” Solomon said.

To help the rookie prepare for the next level, he can lean on players like Von Miller.

“When I was a kid, I watched Von Miller over and over again, he calls you out of nowhere. I’m like, ‘What’s up bro, how are you?'”

All the veterans in the group support Salomon, mirroring the support he receives in his family life.

“My mother raised three children on her own, and all she did was devote herself to us and try to give us the world when she didn’t even have it herself,” Solomon said.

So when the world gets too big, Solomon remembers why he started this journey.

“You know, I was always a kid with big football dreams since I was 7 or 8 years old. So I learned to love this game more than it loves me.”
