Lima man taken into custody after shooting in Faurot Park

LIMA – A Lima man is in custody following a shooting in Faurot Park on Friday.

According to a press release from the Lima Police Department, the police department was notified shortly before noon of an argument in Faurot Park near the intersection of Cole Street and North Shore Drive. One of the parties had a gun and pointed it at the other parties, officers were told.

While police were en route to the park, the suspect fired the weapon, shooting one of the suspects in the leg, the release states. Officers arrived almost immediately after the shooting and took the person with the weapon, identified as Anthonio “Tony” Briggs, 37, of Lima, into custody. De’Marion Gibson, 20, of Lima was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. After speaking with a detective, Briggs was taken to the Allen County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.

According to the press release, everyone involved in the incident knew each other and was at the park for a small family celebration.
