Armed suspect killed by Linn County officials in domestic dispute

PORTLAND, Oregon (COIN) – An armed suspect in a reported domestic dispute was shot and killed by authorities near Lebanon Thursday night after he “aggressively” approached Linn County officers, according to Oregon State Police.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported dispute over a firearm at a home on Speasl Road.

According to OSP, a gun was fired at the home before authorities arrived.

At the scene, authorities encountered the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Gino Maroccia of Lebanon, armed with a rifle outside the home. According to OSP, he approached one of the officers in an “aggressive” manner.

Officials said Maroccia did not comply with police orders to drop his rifle and continued to move closer to one of the officers, who then “fired his weapon, causing Maroccia to fall to the ground and drop the rifle.”

Officers provided emergency medical attention to Maroccia, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Oregon State Police are leading the investigation into the shooting.

The police officers involved in the shooting were placed on leave as per protocol.

No officers were injured in the incident.
