Officers respond to accident, learn that vehicle was stolen and one person arrested

On Wednesday morning, May 29, Ogle County officials were called to a single-vehicle crash in the 10000 block of N. Kennedy Hill Road, where a woman was observed walking away from the scene of the accident.

After an investigation, officers arrested 44-year-old Erin Chapman of Machesney Park for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Chapman was additionally charged with theft of a motor vehicle (class 3 felony) and possession of a stolen vehicle (class 2 felony). Chapman also received citations for improper lane usage, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Based on the scene, officers determined that Chapman was traveling northbound on IL Rte. 2 near Kennedy Hill Road in a Chevrolet S10 truck when it struck a guardrail on the east side of the roadway. The truck came to rest in the southbound lane and the vehicle sustained irreparable damage. Chapman was uninjured in the accident.

Chapman was later taken to the Ogle County Jail, where she was released on a summons under the Bail Reform Act.
