MEMPHIS, Tennessee – A Brownsville man was arrested Thursday after a chase through three counties in western Tennessee that ended with a manhunt in Covington.

Covington police said the pursuit began in Haywood County, where officers attempted to stop a speeding Chevy Cruze on Highway 19.

They say the driver of the Chevy Cruze intentionally drove his vehicle into a Haywood County patrol car and then continued on to Lauderdale County and Tipton County.

Covington Police were notified by dispatch at 6 p.m. Officers said they saw the Chevy turn onto Tatlock Avenue.

The driver got out and ran into a wooded area behind Walmart. A passenger stayed in the vehicle and followed the officers’ instructions, police said.

Officers from Covington, Tipton County and Haywood County set up a perimeter to search for the driver. Covington police deployed a drone and a police dog.

Tyler Hudson, 23, of Brownsville was discovered lying under a tree around 6:30 a.m. Police say he resisted arrest, injuring a Covington police officer. He was taken to the Haywood County Jail.

Hudson is charged by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office with aggravated assault, speeding, fleeing from a felony, and kidnapping. He is later transported to Covington, where he is charged with vandalism, assault on a first responder, and resisting arrest; and to Tipton County, where he is charged with fleeing from a felony.
