53-year-old woman killed in accident in Briargate

(COLORADO SPRINGS) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of a woman who died in a car crash in the Briargate area on the evening of May 25.

According to CSPD, officers originally responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive around 9 p.m. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, CSPD said.

The investigation revealed that a car was traveling eastbound on Briargate Parkway approaching Chapel Hills Drive when a second car traveling westbound turned left onto Chapel Hills and collided with the oncoming car.

The driver of the second car, 53-year-old Maroufeh Kazemi, was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

CSPD said the investigation is ongoing, but speed is considered a factor in the crash. This was the 20th fatal crash in Colorado Springs in 2024. At the same time in 2023, there were 19 fatalities.
