A line of showers and thunderstorms will move across western Ohio around midday. Showers and thunderstorms will occur in the greater Columbus area through the afternoon. Some storms may bring heavy rain and gusty winds. Further west, in the Mississippi River Valley, there is still a cold front.

Further showers and thunderstorms are expected during Tuesday evening. Some of these storms may be strong to severe, with gusty winds, large hail, and the threat of tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center believes central Ohio is at an elevated risk (level 3 out of 5) of severe storms, saying, “The stronger storms (i.e. supercells) may produce a large to very large hail threat in addition to multiple tornadoes. ” (Maybe a few that could be strong).” The chance of tornadoes is over 10% or more (that’s pretty high). We will remain vigilant throughout the evening as these storms develop and roll across the state.

The cold front itself arrives on Wednesday morning and races across the region. But another storm system will roll across the Mississippi Valley Wednesday evening, triggering a new round of showers and thunderstorms across most of the state. Some of Wednesday’s storms could also be strong to severe, but the main threat will be gusty winds and hail. The risk for tornadoes is much lower and limited to the southern corner of the state, but we will remain vigilant here as well.

There will be a low pressure area in Ohio on Thursday with another line of showers and thunderstorms occurring on and off throughout the day. Temperatures will be significantly cooler, in the mid-70s, and gusty winds are likely. As the system moves toward the East Coast Friday morning, showers will briefly ease.

Our break from the wet weather is very short. Low pressure will prevail in the Great Lakes this weekend. Isolated showers are also expected on Saturday and Sunday. A high-pressure system will try to spread across the region on Monday and Tuesday, but a disturbance moving through the Great Lakes could be enough to produce a new line of scattered rain showers.
