Dehradun police officer rapes yoga instructor at gunpoint and is suspended | News from India

DEHRADUN: A sub-inspector of the Uttarakhand Police, currently posted in Dehradun, was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code on Thursday for allegedly repeatedly raping a yoga instructor at gunpoint over the past few months on the pretext of investigating a theft case at her house. She was threatened to keep quiet, police said, adding that the accused policewoman has been suspended.

SSP (Dehradun), Ajai Singh, said on Friday, “Accused Manoj Bhatt has been suspended with immediate effect. Bhatt is currently posted as the in-charge of a check post in Dehradun. Besides IPC section 376 (rape), he has also been booked under sections 323 (intentionally causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (acts insulting modesty of a woman) and 354-B (assault on woman with intent to outrage modesty of woman).” Notably, the accused police officer is yet to be arrested.
