Houston Astros End Brutal Stats Before Reaching MLB’s Worst Streak

The Houston Astros avoided a four-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners on Thursday after winning the final 4-0.

Coming into this series, it was a great opportunity for the Astros to win games against their first place opponent in the division to help them get closer to the playoffs.

Instead, the exact opposite happened.

Just when Houston is about to turn a corner, they’ve taken a few steps back this season, which is uncharacteristic of a franchise that has been utterly dominant during this dynastic run.

One positive that comes from this is that it appears their young starter has turned a corner in his career, something they may desperately need moving forward depending on the situation regarding two of their established veterans.

Thursday’s victory also ended a brutal stretch of play where the Astros were on the verge of tying a futile record held by the 1918 Senators.

While participating in this competition, they had a streak of seven consecutive games in which they scored in a single frame of the game, the first time since the 1974 Baltimore Orioles by Sarah Langs.

It goes without saying that only scoring in a single set significantly reduces a team’s chances of winning.

This was on full display for Houston as they went 1-6 during this span.

Pitching had made headlines as to why this team struggled early, as it dealt with injuries to many of its starters and had to rely on inexperienced throwing arms in several outings.

But with Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez back in the rotation, it’s their offense that has been dropping the ball recently.

With so many stars spread across their lineup, this type of streak is unacceptable.

If the Astros can warm up and find their way back to the playoffs, or even win the division, then this streak will be largely forgotten.

However, this is just another warning sign that Houston looks like a completely different team than the one that has been to a record seven straight American League Championship Series.
