Louisiana man pleads guilty to raping two children and receives 25 years in prison as part of a plea deal

ASSUMPTION PARISH, Louisiana (BRPROUD) – A Louisiana man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the sexual assault of two children.

Layne Barras, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree rape on Wednesday, May 29, according to the 23rd District Attorney’s Office. Officials said a settlement has been reached in the case.

An arrest was made after Barras reportedly admitted to sexually abusing two girls. The district attorney’s office said Assumption Parish investigators received information that Barras engaged in sexual acts with the girls in July 2021.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office informed investigators of a complaint from a medical professional in October 2021.

Barras reportedly admitted to showing one of the children child pornography before reenacting the scene.

He was taken to the Assumption Parish Detention Center after a grand jury indicted him.

The prosecutor’s office announced that Barras will serve his sentence without parole or suspension. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
