Caitlin Clark has a WNBA suspension problem

NBA

Caitlin Clark has officially entered dangerous territory and could be suspended from the WNBA this season due to accumulated technical fouls.

When Clark got in the face of Seattle Storm player Victoria Vivians on Thursday night in Indiana and the two committed a double technical foul, it was Clark’s third technical foul in the first nine games of her WNBA career.

WNBA rules state that players are suspended for one game when they receive their seventh technical foul of the season, and one game for each subsequent technical foul thereafter.

This means that Clark cannot receive more than three technical fouls in the remaining 31 games of the regular season to stay under that limit.

Although Clark has begun to find her shooting style, frustration has grown as the Fever started the season 1-8 and opposing defenses seem to be actively seeking her out with physical play.

On Thursday, Fever head coach Christie Sides was threatened with a technical foul after Clark was brought down near the basket, but no foul was called against the Storm.

“I feel like I’m getting drunk, I don’t know,” Clark told reporters Thursday after one asked her about her and Vivian’s arguments.

“I’m grateful to Christie for bringing in a technician as well. I don’t know.”

Clark’s previous technical violations resulted from altercations with officials.

In an emotional loss to the Connecticut Sun, Clark received a technical foul for telling the referee, “That’s a damn foul,” after a play where there was no whistle.

After her second technical foul of the season, Clark received a warning from her head coach.

“We spend too much time talking to the officials. We have to stop doing that. We have to just play our game and let them do their job and not put it in their hands,” Sides told reporters earlier this week. “We shouldn’t be asking technical questions. Let me ask the technical questions.”
