Deadly shooting in New Iberia leaves one dead

NEW IBERIA, Louisiana (KLFY) – In New Iberia, police are investigating a shooting near the intersection of Pershing and Lee streets that left one person dead.

New Iberia Police officers report gunshots shortly after 5 p.m. Captain Leland Laseter of the New Iberia Police says, “The department has received several calls from people reporting gunshots in the area of ​​Pershing St., Calhoun St., Lee St. and Ann St.”

Leland says his department also received calls about a vehicle crashing into a fence and a tree on Pershing Street. When officers arrived at the scene, a person was found with gunshot wounds.

“A man with gunshot wounds was found in the vehicle,” Leland says.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not yet been released. Laseter says officers are investigating the area to determine what happened and is urging anyone with information to contact New Iberia police.
