Two friends of the 17-year-old boy accused in the May 19 car crash in Pune have claimed that the Porsche Taycan was being driven by the teenager at the time of the accident and that he was under the influence of alcohol.

The teenager’s two friends, who were also minors, were sitting in the back seat of the luxury car at the time of the accident in Kalyani Nagar, Pune.

The Pune Crime Branch had recorded the statement of the juvenile accused’s friends under Section 164 before the Justice of the Peace.

The police wanted to name the minor’s boyfriend as a key witness in the case because they were present at the scene of the accident at the time of the accident. Their blood samples were also collected.

Police ask for permission to question teenager

On Friday, the Pune police wrote to the Juvenile Justice Authority seeking permission to investigate the teenager who hit two young engineers by speeding over them with his car, killing both on the spot.

The defendant will be held in an observation home until June 5.

“We have written to the Law Ministry asking for permission to examine the minor,” said Shailesh Balkawade, deputy commissioner of police (crime).

Earlier this week, an autorickshaw driver who was rescued at the last moment when the drunken boy rammed his car into the deaths of two IT professionals on bicycles said: “There were three boys in the car. All of them were visibly drunk.”

The legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25 years. However, the accused was only 17 years old.

When his blood samples were taken to test whether he was drunk at the time of the accident, Sassoon General Hospital switched them with those of another person.

Doctors poured his blood sample into a container and sent another sample to the forensic lab for testing. Police became suspicious when the breathalyzer test came back negative and conducted another test at another government hospital, where the report showed that he was drunk.

The two doctors were allegedly offered a bribe of Rs 300,000. They were arrested.
