Normani Celebrates Houston Roots With Upbeat Summer Anthem “Candy Paint”

The song will appear on his upcoming album, Dopamine

Normani has shared a new single, “Candy Paint.” This fast track is the second listen from the singer’s upcoming solo album, Dopamine, released June 14 via RCA Records. She previously teased the song in a trailer for the album earlier this month.

“Candy Paint” follows “1:59” with Gunna, which Normani dropped in April. The song, written and produced by Normani alongside Brittanny “Starrah” Hazzard and Tommy Brown, sees her taking inspiration from Houston’s iconic candy-painted lowriders. “If you let me take it, you might never get it back, I’m a bad guy and I don’t know how to act,” she sings. “Boy candy painting with the diamond on the back.”

In February, Normani revealed her plans for Dopamine (although at the time, the release date had not yet been announced) and teased the new project with an image of the album cover. “It’s a representation of my evolution. Since launching her solo career in 2018, around the time Fifth Harmony announced an indefinite hiatus, Normani has released numerous high-profile collaborations and hinted at a debut album for nearly six years.

“For me, this next album is not just about releasing music. It feels like a representation of everything I’ve been through to get to this moment,” Normani said.
