Police investigate suspected murder-suicide in Acton, Massachusetts condo

Middlesex police and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating what authorities say was an apparent murder-suicide in Acton, Massachusetts. A 49-year-old stepfather is accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl, driving her to the parking lot of her home and shooting her to death before turning the gun on himself, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Acton Police Chief James Cogan said Thursday night. District attorney’s office said shortly after 4 p.m., Acton police received a call reporting the teen’s apparent abduction by her stepfather, Juliano Santana, 49. Authorities said Santana’s probation officer was able to track his location using a GPS monitoring device he was wearing because of a case pending in Middlesex Superior Court. Police responded to a parking lot at the Pine Hill Condominiums on Route 2A (Great Road). Authorities said they found Santana and the victim apparently dead (with gunshot wounds) in his car. Prosecutors said the investigation indicated Santana abducted the victim as she walked on Great Road near his residence after school and later shot her and then himself. Ryan and Cogan said the 16-year-old victim in this case is the same victim in a pending criminal case against the suspect. According to prosecutors, the victim reported back in September 2021 that Santana had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. Santana was arrested the same day and tried on six counts of aggravated rape of a child. Prosecutors said at Santana’s arraignment, his bail was set at $30,000 with conditions that he be monitored with a GPS device, stay away from and have no contact with the victim, and have no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said the victim’s case is scheduled for trial in late July.
